Former Wildcat Jesse Wilkening was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 14th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft. Wilkening, who just completed his JR year at the University of Nebraska, was the 407th overall player selected. He led the Huskers with a .372 batting average in 2018 en route to second-team All-Big Ten honors. Jesse also led the team in doubles (14), while ranking second on the team in hits (74), home runs (9), runs scored (45) and total bases (117).
Before attending Nebraska, Wilkening had a decorated career at Hanover Central. Jesse owns the State of Indiana record for most career hits (206), is 7th in career batting average (.516) and also ranks 9th in career RBI’s (156). He was previously drafted out of Hanover Central in 2015 by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 28th round.
