The girls soccer team played a tough Covenant Christian team Thursday night, but the Knight’s couldn’t stop the ‘Cats from keeping their 6-0 winning record.
Going into the game the Wildcats knew it would be a close one. The first quarter was hard-fought and no one could score. Senior forward Savannah Ferry took a few shots but had no luck hitting the back of the net. Junior goalie Maddie Stutsman had a few saves, not allowing anyone to score on her. The first half ended with a 0-0 score, but with about thirty minutes to go in the second half, Covenant found a way to score against the Wildcats, putting the score at 1-0. The ‘Cats were eager to score, and with about 18 minutes left, Ferry finally put the Wildcats on the board with an assist from Senior Madeline Kartz to tie the game at 1-1. With a yellow card given to junior Nicole Deady, some players were put into positions they had never played before. They managed to adapt and adjust to the new positions and shut the door on the defensive end. With eight minutes left, Senior Nevaeh Govert scored with an assist from Senior Star Sanchez. Unfortunately, Stutsman was also given a yellow card giving the Knights a free kick. Freshman Emmi Doty had to be goalie because of this.You could feel the tensions rise on the field as the free kick was made, but the Wildcats stayed level headed. They ended up not capitalizing on this penalty kick, and they were able to hold the ball until the final horn sounded.
