Another member of the girl’s varsity soccer team is senior, Savannah Ferry. Ferry has 14 years of soccer experience under her belt and is a starting forward. She not only plays for the Wildcats, she played for Eclipse Select, NWI Lions, and now trains with New Future Soccer Academy. We interviewed this outstanding player and this is what we were told:
QUESTION: What made you decide to play?
I have grown up watching my older cousins play soccer, and I started to play at a young age. I fell in love with the sport and I’ve been playing ever since.
QUESTION: Do you plan on playing soccer after high school?
Yes, I am planning on committing soon!
QUESTION: What is your favorite thing about soccer?
I love the competitiveness and the feeling when I score a goal. I also love that I can play soccer and all of my worries go away, the only thing I can focus on is the game. I just cannot see myself not playing soccer.
QUESTION: Do you have any hobbies or play any other sports?
I also play basketball for Hanover. My hobbies are hanging out with my friends Julia, Star, Cam, and my sister Skylar.
QUESTION: Who is your biggest influence in your life?
My family has always been a huge influence on me, and I have a big family that I’m very close with. They have always supported me and encouraged me for as long as I can remember. Coach Jim has also been a big influence for me to push myself, and I give him a lot of credit for the player I have become.
QUESTION: How do you handle pressure?
I just think about what I have to do, take a breath, and execute to the best of my ability. I know what I am capable of and I try not to let anything get in the way.
QUESTION: How do you feel about sectionals coming up? Why?
I am excited because it is a sectional that I feel we can win. It is also hosted by Hanover; since it is our last sectional I look forward to playing hard and hopefully bringing home a sectional title.
QUESTION: How do you feel about the season coming to an end soon? Why?
It makes me sad because I love being on the team with the girls and the coaches. I also love playing with my sister and I’m going to miss that. Four years went by way too fast. Also, I am proud of everything I have accomplished, as well as the team’s accomplishments. But I look forward to starting a new chapter in my life by continuing to play at the collegiate level.
QUESTION: How do you feel the team played this year? Accomplishments made?
Going into the season I was so unsure about what it would look like. After our first game, I knew that it was going to be a good season. All of the girls work hard and play with their heart. We have a really good record and we have played hard against really great teams and never gave up.
QUESTION: What are you going to miss about the soccer team?
I’m going to miss all the laughs and the memories I’ve made, and seeing all the girls and coaches. I’m also going to miss being with my sister, and the bus rides after and before games. Most of all I will miss competing for my school and wearing Hanover on my jersey.
