Hanover Central handles Clark in preseason HS football scrimmage
August 11, 2017
(Robertsdale-Hammond) The Hanover Central football Wildcats dominated Clark (Hammond) on both sides of the ball, as the team prepared for its season with a controlled scrimmage at Fort Pioneer Stadium in Robertsdale Friday night.
Head Coach Pete Koulianos was satisfied with his team’s performance, although he acknowledged the Clark Pioneers got his boys’ attention quickly. On the very first play of the night, the Hanover defense allowed a wide receiver to slip through, surrendering a 70-yard TD pass.
That would be the only big play the defense would allow the rest of the night. During Clark’s ensuing snaps, Hanover senior linebacker Jacob Wienke registered two tackles for losses, one of which led to a forced fumble. Later, senior defensive back Austin Sheppard batted down a 4th and goal pass in the endzone, and senior cornerback Wyatt Chalos intercepted a pass in the HC endzone.
Offensively, the Wildcats steamrolled the Pioneer defense during both varsity and junior varsity possessions. The varsity Wildcats registered seven touchdowns. Senior running back David Krueger found the endzone three times, the last coming on a 40 yard TD run. Senior Bonscott Young and sophomore Brett Driscoll also rushed for TD’s. Senior quarterback James DeLange tossed two TD passes: a 30-yarder to junior Brandon Demoff, and an 18-yarder to sophomore Jack Kuiper.
The Wildcats open regular season play Friday, August 18 when they host Bishop Noll.
