The Lady Wildcats finished 3rd overall in the Greater South Shore Conference tournament, winning an exciting quarterfinal game in overtime 27-26 verses Lake Station and losing their semifinal game 23-17 verses River Forest.
In the first game against Lake Station, the Wildcats started out strong offensively. Great defense held Lake Station to 5 points at the end of the 1st half and allowed them to lead the game most of the way, ahead by 11 by the end of the 3rd quarter. However, as clock ticked down, Lake Station began to close the gap and by the time the 4th quarter ended it was even 21-21 with Lake Station scoring with 2 seconds to go. In the overtime, after back-and-forth scoring Hanover took the lead for the final time 27-26 with less than a minute to go. Lake Station failed to score again and Hanover celebrated the win as time ran off the clock. Leading in scoring was Sienna Stilley with 11 points followed by Brooklyn Oostman with 8 points, Zoe Serenas with 4 points and Gaby Brody and Claire Edgerton with 2 points.
In the 2nd game against River Forest, the Wildcats stayed in the lead for much of the 1st half but the game remained close. In the 4th quarter, the Lady Ingots began to pull away and the game ended with the Wildcats losing 23-17.
Both games were very physical and the girls gave 100% even with many battling injuries from the scraps, bumps and bruises amassed during both games.
The Lady Wildcats finish out the season at home verses Kankakee Valley, today at 5:00 PM.
