(Cedar Lake) After trailing 28-6 at halftime, the Hanover Central football Wildcats came out of the locker room with some fight, holding the Wolves scoreless through the 3rd and making it a one possession game heading into the 4th. But the Boone Grove offense was simply too much, pulling ahead late for a 41-26 win on Homecoming night at the Wildcat Den.
Boone Grove was led by the Region’s best running back. Braeton Vann—who entered the game averaging 18 yards per carry this season—finished with 218 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Hanover Central (3-2, 2-1 GSSC) could not run the ball against a stout Wolves front seven. BG outgained Hanover 320-14 in rushing yards.
The Wildcats’ success in the passing game kept their hopes alive. QB Tyler Fruehling threw for a career-high 229 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. His favorite target was Brandon Demoff, who finished with 9 catches for 165 yards, both career highs, and 2 TD’s.
Boone Grove (4-1, 2-1 GSSC) was 9/13 on 3rd down conversions, and 2/2 on 4th down conversions, resulting in a 33:16 – 14:44 time of possession edge that eventually wore down the HC defense.
HC was led defensively by Connor Wotherspoon’s 18 tackles. Brett Driscoll had 14, Michael Simon had 11. John Miller and Adam Anderson registered sacks.
