The cross-country teams traveled to Oak Ridge Prairie in Griffith to face Lake Ridge and Union Township. The venue was far more enjoyable this year, a the runners and fans did not have to worry about being carried away by mosquitoes. The boys defeated both teams by a score of 16 to 47 to 105. The boys finished seven in the top ten, led by Brayden Kurczewski in first place. Danny Kartz, Ashton Verbish and Austin Miller finished 2,3,and 4. Kyle Perez, Lincoln Zerby and Kevin Arroyo finished 6th, 7th and 8th, respectively. John Carter, Braden Flood and Cai Jacquess ran personal best times.
The girls race was much more closely contested, as the girls squeaked by Union Township by a score of 28-29, with Lake Ridge scoring 85. Scarlett Nelson finished 2nd. Union Township placed 1,3 and 4, but HC then went 5,6,7,8,and 9 to come away with the win. The girls will hope to lengthen that scoring gap at the conference meet on Saturday, October 5th, at Wheeler High School for the GSSC Championship.
